The Dollar 717i fountain pens are simple in design, well made, sturdy and solid in construction and write superbly. They are one of Pakistan's most popular fountain pens and they are excellent value.

The body and cap are transparent with a chrome pocket clip and chrome ring around the base of the cap. The section, end cap and piston rod are red. This is a nice touch and blue and black versions are also available allowing which is handy if you mainly use black, blue and red ink.

The Dollar 717i  employs a built in piston filler - it does not need or accept a converter or cartridges and can only use bottled ink. The pen holds just over 2ml of ink - about 3 times the capacity of most converters and ink cartridges so this gives you a lot more writing time between refills.

To fill the pen first unscrew the end cap on the barrel to remove it. Turn the exposed knob anti clockwise to move the piston down and force air out of the ink reservoir. Insert the nib into your ink bottle and slowly turn the knob clockwise to draw ink up into the pen. It's usually best to do this a few times to get rid of the air from the reservoir to allow the maximum amount of ink in there. I always give it a tiny turn anti clockwise to force a few drops of ink out to ensure there are no air locks anywhere.

You can see the piston moving and the ink's progress on the transparent demonstrator models. The other models have a small window which shows how much ink is in the pen and the colour of the ink.
