These beautiful glass dip pens are made entirely of glass and each one is a unique work of art as well as a functional writing instrument. These pens are still made by hand so there are minor variations in each batch produced. The Venetians have been making glass for over 1500 years so it's no surprise to learn that glass dip pens originated in in the 17th Century in Venice which was Europe's first major glass making centre. Today glass dip pens are made all over the world, mainly by individual craftsmen and these ones are made in Thailand.
The glass nib has grooves which hold the ink and they generally hold much more than steel nibbed dip pens so you can write for longer. They are very easy to clean by simply swirling them in a container of water or dunning them under a tap which mkaes them ideal for testing ink samples.
The writing tip of the glass nib can be modified to suit your writing style by carefully sanding it with 12000 Micro Mesh or Mylar Paper. You can also do this if the tip becomes a bit blunt from use.
Using a glass dip pen is much the same as using a nibbed dip pen. Dip the nib about half way into the ink and scrape the excess on the edge of the ink bottle before writing.
